Configuring Your Platform

The information Preczn needs from you to set up your platform, and how to send it.

When you join Preczn, you choose the values for your platform and send them to your Preczn team member, who configures them on your platform for you. This page lists the values to choose, so you can gather them ahead of time and send them in one message.

You can change any of these values later. Send the new values to your Preczn representative.

Business Information

ValueDescription
Platform nameThe name Preczn shows for your platform.
Business legal nameYour company's registered legal name.
AddressYour company's business address.
Platform contactThe name and phone number of the person Preczn contacts about your platform.

Approved Domains

Approved domains are the domains your boarding forms run on. A form template can only use a domain on this list. Send each domain you plan to use for boarding forms, including the protocol (for example, https://boarding.yourplatform.com).

Each domain also needs DNS and SSL setup before merchants can reach it. See Configuring Domain Names for those steps and Boarding Form Templates for how templates use the domain.

Merchant Classification

These values control which merchant category codes (MCCs) and NAICS codes your merchants can pick on boarding forms. See Merchant Classification Codes for how each value affects your forms.

ValueDescription
Recommended MCC codesThe four-digit MCCs your merchants typically use.
Recommended NAICS codesThe six-digit NAICS codes your merchants typically use.
Suggested NAICS codes per MCCFor each recommended MCC, the NAICS codes that usually go with it. Every code in a pairing must also appear in your recommended lists.

Your recommended lists can be as short as your merchant base allows. A focused list is easier for merchants to pick from.

Default Merchant Values

Default merchant values are optional. You don't need to send any of them.

Preczn applies a default only when it creates a merchant, and only if the new merchant has no value of its own for that field. This applies to merchants created through the API, the Dashboard, and merchant imports. A merchant's own value always takes precedence. Defaults never change merchants that already exist, including existing merchants that are missing the value.

⚠️

A Default Satisfies the Onboarding Requirement

Once Preczn saves a default on a merchant, the field counts as complete. If a connection requires that field, the requirement is met even though the merchant never entered the value. On the boarding form, the merchant sees the default already filled in and can submit it without changing it.

Whether that helps depends on your vertical:

  • Helps: Your merchants are similar, so one value fits nearly all of them. For example, a platform for HVAC contractors sets Default MCC 1711. Merchants skip a field they would otherwise have to look up.
  • Hurts: Your merchants' volumes differ. For example, you set Estimated average ticket to $450. A merchant whose real average ticket is $4,000 boards with $450 because they never had to enter it. The processor may then review the merchant using figures that don't describe their business.

Transaction values carry the most risk: Estimated high ticket, Estimated average ticket, and Estimated annual sales volume. If these vary across your merchants, don't set defaults for them. Let each merchant enter their own.

ValueDescription
Default MCCAn MCC from your recommended list.
Default NAICS codeA NAICS code from your recommended list.
Estimated high ticketThe largest single transaction amount you expect from a typical merchant.
Estimated average ticketThe average transaction amount you expect from a typical merchant.
Estimated annual sales volumeThe yearly card sales you expect from a typical merchant.
Product or service descriptionA short description of what your merchants typically sell.

Your Preczn team member confirms the remaining settings, such as test and live mode, with you during setup.

Send Your Values

FAQ

Can I change these values myself in the Dashboard?

No. Send the values to your Preczn representative, and they configure them for you. You manage your form templates yourself, including each template's MCC Codes and NAICS Codes.

Do I need to send every value?

No. Send the platform name and approved domains you need for boarding forms. Every other value is optional. If you send no recommended codes, boarding forms offer every MCC and NAICS code.

If I change a default, do existing merchants change?

No. Preczn applies defaults only when it creates a merchant. Merchants that already exist keep their values, including merchants that are missing the value.

If I change my recommended codes, do my form templates change?

No. A new template starts with your recommended codes. Templates you already saved keep their own lists. Forms whose template has no list use your current recommended codes.

Why was one of my pairings rejected?

Every code in a pairing must also be on your recommended lists. Add the MCC to your recommended MCC codes and the NAICS code to your recommended NAICS codes, then send the pairing again.
